Project Summary
GAA Design was commissioned to develop a sensitive site in Eton Wick, preserving a historic public house while integrating new community-focused elements.
Through collaboration with the Local Authority and local residents, the team crafted a scheme that met both regulatory and community needs, ultimately securing planning approval.
Safe in a flood event
However, a significant challenge loomed over the project: the site’s location within a flood zone. GAA Design, known for their skillful problem-solving, took on this challenge with determination. They devised a clever and innovative scheme that not only met safety standards but also secured approval from environmental offices. Their negotiation efforts ensured that the development could be safely inhabited and easily evacuated in the highly unlikely event of a 1:1000 year flood event, demonstrating their commitment to both safety and sustainable design.
Win Win
The project’s success served as a model for harmoniously integrating modern development into historically significant and environmentally sensitive areas. It was indeed a “win-win” outcome, benefiting the developer, the local community, and the environment, and exemplifying GAA Design’s reputation for excellence in architectural and urban design.
