Slough continues to be a destination for families and businesses who want to escape the confines of big-city life and enjoy a more rural location to live, work, and bring up families.
In 2017, 2018 and 2019, Slough topped the Glassdoor survey of the best places to live and work in the UK. Not only was Slough crowned winner based on job prospects and salary but also on property prices.
Additionally, the Slough Observer highlighted a survey by Play Like Mum that identified Slough as one of the most family-friendly places to live for young families, with outstanding schools and eating-out opportunities.
The Slough Observer also highlighted other little-known facts about the town, including
- One of the most ethnically diverse towns in the UK, encouraging companies to invest
- The first Zebra crossing was invented in Slough in 1951, though no longer in existence as the area has since been pedestrianised
- Birthplace of the modern plastic wheelie bin, produced by Frank Rotherham mouldings in 1968
- The iconic British TV show Thunderbirds was initially written, produced and filmed at Slough Trading Estate between 1964 and 1966
- The setting for the hit UK comedy The Office
As you can see, Slough is an exciting, diverse and historic place to live, work and raise a family.
GAA Design in Slough
GAA designs have been designing aspirational residential communities in Slough since 2009 under the leadership of Sundeep Singh Bhavra BA (Hons), Dip Arch, Dip Arch Pract, RIBA, ARB, who has 13 years of experience in the residential sector in London and the home counties.
We have been instrumental in numerous developments around the area, and our excellent ongoing relationship with the local planning department has allowed for two new developments to be approved by the local planning committee on 21 December 2022.
The first project was a proposal for two new-build blocks of apartments at 19-25 Lansdowne Avenue, Slough. This consisted of a four-story and a part 3,4, and 5-storey block. There will be a total of 33 units, with five units offered as affordable housing and an s106 contribution of £150,000.
There will be 23 car parking spaces with provision for both active and passive EV, as well as cycle and refuse storage. In addition, all of the apartments will have their own private amenity spaces and access to a communal courtyard. Two of the units will be wheelchair accessible and come with car parking spaces.
The second project at 375 Bath Road, Slough, is for an eight-storey new build block of apartments. The development will consist of 91 apartments, with 18 of these apartments to be offered as affordable housing and an s106 contribution of £300,000.
The project will feature 52 car parking spaces, including the provision of 30% active EV charging stations and the remainder passive. Additionally, 92 cycle parking spaces will be created to promote a more sustainable transport design philosophy.
All the apartments will have their own private amenity space and access to two large communal terraces. Notably, this is the first residential scheme to gain approval in this redevelopment zone and marks the start of regeneration in this area.
